Good read! But I have to say - indeed this is true when we're talking about top companies, as it says in the article. If we think of some lesser known ones - then they certainly still get interested in your background and even more in your "AI expert" skills. The reality of many PMs, especially outside US, is that they apply to those smaller companies and are getting the "legacy" interview processes. What if my background was not perfect even though I've been reflecting on it and improving? Or what if my previous company didn't care about AI and even insisted on not using it? Recruiters don't care, they still want to hear what & how you shipped in your older roles and will not even share your CV with the hiring manager if there is no 95% match.

I very much agree with this. I don’t think the market moves unilaterally or consistently. These are definitely the most forward-leaning companies, and set the pace that other companies will eventually follow, but perhaps years away. My thinking is to help our listeners prepare for the future. But it might not match your current interview experience if you aren’t talking to comparable companies.

For years, many of us in product were trained to perfect our narratives, the launch story, the growth story, the turnaround story. But the AI wave is changing the evaluation model. Companies increasingly want to see how you think in real time, not just how well you can describe the past.

Great conversation and very practical lessons for anyone navigating the transition into AI-driven product roles.
